South Korea is set to welcome up to 15,000 participants when the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Congress comes to the southern port city of Busan.
The IDF congress – the world’s largest diabetes-related academic event – is set to held at Busan Exhibition and Convention Centre from December 2-6, 2019.
Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO), along with Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Tourism Organisation, and the Korean Diabetes Association together formed the bidding committee that made the announcement of the bid win on December 7 from the IDF Congress 2017 in Abu Dhabi.
KTO began its preparations for the bid in 2013, and submitted a proposal to the IDF in 2016. It also assisted with site inspections of Busan by IDF delegates.
“We hope this bid win has a positive impact on the minds of event planners, and helps to continue to grow confidence in our meetings industry,” Min Min-hong, KTO vice-president of international tourism, said.
KTO says the 2019 IDF Congress is expected to generate US$58.29 million in economic benefit and create about 660 jobs.
