SANYA One&Only Resorts is joining the growing list of upscale resorts that are transforming the island’s famous shoreline.
“We will take the destination to a whole new level of international travel, particularly for the regional and local Chinese travellers, who have over time become more seasoned in their understanding of luxury and quality in travel,” said Alan Leibman, chief executive of Kerzner International Holdings Limited, which owns and manages resort properties under the One&Only and the Atlantis brands in South Africa, the Bahamas and Dubai, to name a few.
“Our Chinese market has doubled and quadrupled over the last couple of years. We have seen a lot of small groups coming through, which are not part of your typical tour groups,” he added.
The 180-room One&Only Sanya, Kerzner’s first property in Asia, will be located at Tufu Bay. It will be nestled in 16.19 hectares of coconut palms and ancient rosewood trees, which overlook half-kilometre of private beach. About 40-minutes from the airport, it is slated to open in 2014 or early 2015.
It is expected that Kerzner will hew closely to its tried-and-tested formula of putting a lot of lifestyle and entertainment elements to this new resort.
“One&Only Sanya will be luxurious and very unique, with a distinctive sense of place. We will capture, in a modern way, the real spirit and essence of the wonderful Chinese culture, history and architecture, which will be carried through the experience from the moment a guest books a room or villa,” Leibman says.
