The year-end will see the opening of the MICE Cluster in Seoul, an initiative that will provide a one-stop shop for accommodation, conventions, shopping and leisure in the prominent district of Gangnam.
Launched by Coex Convention and Exhibition Center (Coex) and Korea International Trade Association, the cluster will bring together 12 business and tourism facilities in an integrated complex that spans 200,000 sqm. The project aims to position Seoul as a premier destination for meetings and business travel, similar to Melbourne’s convention district and the Marina Bay Sands integrated resort in Singapore.
In addition, the cluster will include Asia’s largest underground shopping facility, Coex Mall, comprising over 1,400 stores. For visitors looking for entertainment, it is home to the Megabox Coex – South Korea’s largest domestic movie theatre that holds the world record for hosting 6.22 million moviegoers in one year. It also incorporates three five-star hotels: the 512-room Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas; the 656-room InterContinental Seoul Coex; and, Oakwood Premier Coex Center Seoul, which offers 280 luxury serviced apartments.
Many buildings within the complex are connected by indoor walkways to maximise ease of access for delegates. Travellers can conveniently check in for their flights early at the City Airport Terminal, which also provides a shuttle bus to both Gimpo International Airport and Incheon International Airport. The cluster is also linked to Seoul’s underground metro, and is well served by taxis.
