ROLL OUT THE SAKE
HIROSHIMA is banging the sake drum for more business event groups to visit. The city’s convention bureau has been showing off a unique restaurant venue tucked away in a mountain pass. Irori-sanzoku is part of a complex of traditional Japanese-style buildings that includes a castle and offers a great evening out for groups seeking omotenashi, the unique local approach to hospitality.
HATS OFF TO CATALYST
TEAMBUILDING groups from across the world gathered in South Africa for the Catalyst Team Development Industry Conference. Hong Kong’s Team Building Asia were among the 45 companies representing 60 countries at Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge, Pilanesberg National Park, on the slopes of a two billion-year-old volcano. Several CSR-related activities were launched that clients will be seeing in the months to come.
ASHINE IN SARAWAK
STARS of Korean soap operas and K-pop were among the TV celebrities shining at the 23rd Asian Television Awards. It was the first time the event was held in Malaysia and around 200 channels across Asia were represented. Miss World Malaysia, Larissa Ping Liew, even took time to pose with Sarawakians at Borneo Convention Centre in Kuching, where the event was held.
JUGGLER GOT TALENT
TRAVEL industry executives are quite used to juggling different tasks, but at the Business Traveller Asia Pacific Awards they enjoyed the antics of America’s Got Talent semi-finalist Ivan Pecel. The Californian even roped in airline and hotel bosses into his act at the Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong.
CHARITABLE CHATRIUM
CHATRIUM Hotel Riverside Bangkok opened its ballroom to 80 children from the Foundation for the Blind in Thailand. The highlight of the evening was the award of scholarships to all the youngsters.
