Busan is set to host a series of high-profile events over the coming years, including the 36th FISITA Congress next month.
The congress, focusing on energy-efficiency, safety, eco-friendly technology and connectivity, will take place September 26-30, 2016.
Next year (2017), Busan is due to host the International Cosmic Ray Conference (ICRC), with 800 attendees expected, and the International Conference on Tritium Science and Technology, bringing 300 attendees from 20 countries.
Further events include: the 2018 African Development Bank (AfDB) annual meeting, expected to draw 4,000 delegates from 80 countries; Asia Pacific Congress of Anatomists 2018（APICA 2018), with 35 countries being represented so far; and The 28th World Congress on Biosensors in 2020, set to welcome 1,500 people from 70 countries.
The city is building up to the 2030 Expo, having established the 2030 World Expo Citizens’ Steering Committee last year.
Hotels
Both the Hilton Busan Hotel and the Ananti Penthouse are due to open in Haeundae by early 2017.
A six-star Lotte hotel, Haeundae LCT The Sharp, has been under construction since 2013 and is scheduled to open in 2019.
Venues
Earlier this year, the Busan government confirmed that construction of a new opera house would begin in 2017.
The site of the venue will be Busan north point renovation site.
The opera house is expected to open in 2020.
