As Malaysia’s premier convention facility, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) encourages all exhibitors and clients to be environmentally conscious in the overall planning and execution of events. The Centre is more than happy to assist PCOs/PEOs in promoting green practices as well as publicising measures currently in place. ìGreenî meetings are the way of the future and it is only prudent local industry leaders work together to ensure Malaysia remains a competitive destination on the ìgreenî meetings and exhibitions map.
We support the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia’s (FRIM) Conservation Culture Programme via a tree-planting initiative that sees monies for commemorative gifts for our annual Client Appreciation Cocktail and Association Seminar channelled towards the planting of selected endangered species at FRIM’s Kepong Botanic Gardens in Kuala Lumpur.
Clients are also encouraged to participate in the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau’s "Let’s Meet & Green" programme, whereby international delegates attending business tourism events in Malaysia can contribute a minimum of US$10 as part of their event registration towards FRIM’s tree-planting programme. The first conference organiser to respond positively to this programme was the 18th World Congress of Accountants 2010, where a total of RM60,000 (US$19,509) was donated by delegates.
Our 3Rs Campaign (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) aims to increase awareness of environmental protection and sustainable practices, such as segregating waste for the recycling centre and reusing timber, pipes and curtains from exhibitions. We also advocate that our suppliers adopt green practices such as online promotion and registration to reduce dependence on paper, use local produce in their F&B offerings, avoid using throwaway utensils and plan food service needs to avoid unnecessary wastage.
