Alila Purnama sets maiden voyage in December

INDONESIA Alila Hotels and Resorts has unveiled Alila Purnama, a luxury sailing boat built by hand in the traditional style of a Phinisi used by Bugis seafarers from south Sulawesi.

The 46-metre-long vessel, custom-made from teak, rattan and other locally sourced materials, is set to make its inaugural journey on December 15 around the islands of Raja Ampat, located on the north-western tip of New Guinea. This is a popular diving site as 70 percent of the world’s total number of coral species is said to be found in local waters.

Alila Purnama, which means “Full Moon”, offers a unique liveaboard experience for seven days and six nights. Companies can charter it entirely for one sailing for incentives of up to 10 participants. With five air-conditioned cabins, including a master suite, that are fitted with queen-size beds, en-suite bathrooms with shower, writing desk, separate toilet and double wardrobes, passengers are assured of cruising the high seas in total indulgence.

Groups can have their choice of water- and land-based activities. Featuring its own fully licensed PADI dive centre, Alila Purnama offers more than 16 dive courses. Other water-based activities include kayaking, fishing and snorkeling. On land, yoga classes can be organised, as can lunches or barcecue dinners by the beach or visits to pearl farms.

On hand to create a seamless experience is a staff of 16, including a resident chef and a spa therapist, as well as the cruise director and the dive instructor – both of whom are PADI-certified.

Sailing expeditions will run every week from Saturday to the following Friday. In 2013, Alila Purnama will ply the waters of Raja Ampat through March 8, Banda Islands from March 16 to March 29 and Komodo Island from April 6 to November 29.

The six-night liveaboard package costs US$54,000 for 10 people, inclusive of all meals, refreshments and non-alcoholic beverages. All water sports, island excursions and admission to the national parks are also covered.
