RANDWICK Corporate groups visiting Sydney between May and July may want to include this unique experience in their itinerary.
Racecourse Drive In Cinema, 5 km from the city centre, will start operating in May for a three-month period at the Randwick Racecourse in the eastern suburbs.
"Jumping in the car and going to the drive in used to be a great family bonding experience. We've recreated that opportunity and made it available for all," said Paul Rosenberg, founder, Racecourse Drive In Cinema.
Companies looking to deliver something nostalgic to their next event can book Racecourse Drive In Cinema for a movie night.
"We have great support from companies wanting to bring teams and stakeholders together in a fun and unique environment suited for families, couples and groups," Rosenberg said.
The drive in is available for private corporate functions, product launches and team-building sessions with a maximum of 450 vehicles. There is a VIP area suited for 50 vehicles. Moviegoers listen to the movie soundtrack through their car radios.
Corporate event nights are available for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday throughout the season with corporate packages starting from A$20,000 (US$21,114), which includes venue hire, choice of film, security staff and operation of the event. Food and beverage is not included, but a host of catering optons can be arranged through the Australian Turf Club or external supplier for additional costs.
There are opportunities for themed nights such as one based on the movie Grease where waitresses dress up as pink ladies and rolled around on roller skates, old school cars wer in the VIP section hosting key clients and prospects.
There is also an option for on-screen advertising whre brand-specific content can be displayed on the giant 20 x 16m screen.
Racecourse Drive In Cinema was first unveiled in 2010 for a trial season, which saw over 16,000 viewers. From 2013, there are plans to operate the drive in for three months every year.
Randwick Racecourse, which is set to complete a A$150 million (US$158.35 million) renovation in March, is considered as one of the best horseracing tracks in Australia.
