SHANGHAI Scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2013, the long awaited Mandarin Oriental Pudong has revealed it will open what is said to be the largest outdoor riverside event space in city. Located on the east bank of the Huangpu River the Mandarin’s 5,000sqm venue is intended to be used for glamorous social events, cocktail receptions and brand launches. The riverside location makes for a photogenic backdrop and the site has been designed to allow for iconic shots that will capture Shanghai’s city centre.
The site will compliment the Mandarin Oriental Pudong’s meeting and event offerings, which promise to be the most comprehensive in Shanghai. Alongside the new outdoor feature space, the hotel will also have a large selection of multi-functional event spaces. These will include a Grand Ballroom capable of hosting 500 guests; the Oriental Ballroom for 250 guests; and eight dedicated meeting rooms for more intimate gatherings.
Designed by architect Bernardo Fort-Brescia of Arquitectonica, once completed, the hotel will offer 318 guestrooms and 44 suites. Spanning 788 sqm, the presidential suite will also be the largest of it’s kind in Shanghai.
