Courtyard by Marriot, Sha Tin, Opening Ceremony
HONG KONG Opened by Marriott International’s Asia president and managing director, Simon Cooper, the new Courtyard by Marriott Sha Tin is the largest of the Courtyard brand in Asia and the second largest world wide.
Among the hotel’s 539 rooms is a 165sqm presidential suite and three floors of executive rooms. Each bedroom has complimentary wifi, a generous workstation, ensuite marble bathroom with rain shower, LCD TV with international satellite channels and minibar.
Around half of the rooms have been configured with twin beds, for business travellers sharing accommodation. Guests staying on the executive level have access to the hotel’s executive suite which features a self service bar, dining facilities and separate work spaces. The suite also has dramatic views over Sha Tin and a balcony facing the nearby Hong Kong Jockey Club race course.
Meeting facilities include a grand ballroom and three smaller meeting rooms. The 515sqm pillar less ballroom can host up to 430 people at any one time and can also be divided into three equally sized smaller venues. A large outdoor terrace is also available for outside functions. The lobby features casual workstations, complete with power access points, suitable for break out sessions.
In line with the Courtyard brand, the hotel operates a single restaurant, Momo Café, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets. A choice of Asian and Western dishes is available and the restaurant also features two private dining rooms. The hotel also has a small shopping precinct on the ground floor with at least one unit already allocated for a Chinese restaurant which, when opened will provide an alternative to the Momo Café. A lobby bar, 24 hour gym and outdoor swimming pool compliments the guest facilities offered.
Located outside of the city centre in Hong Kong’s New Territories, the hotel is positioned to take advantage of Chinese travellers arriving through the nearby Lok Ma Chau, Shenzen, crossing. Similarly, at less than 50km the proximity to the airport makes the Courtyard Sha Tin an ideal staging post for meetings and conferences expecting large numbers of overseas delegates.
Although out of town, the site is well serviced by the MTR. Just five minutes walk from the Shek Mun station, visitors can easily travel to the city by rail.
Guests can use the Courtyard by Marriott’s award-winning “GoBoard” to find local information and maps. This 55-inch touch screen monitor provides details on local dining options and transport directions. Smartphone integration allows users to record the information to their own device via a QR code.
