Wyndham Hotel Group’s Asian expansion has seen the company enter three new markets this year, with hotels opening in Vietnam, Japan, and Myanmar.
Among the 15 properties that the group unveiled across Asia this year were Wyndham Legend Halong Bay in Vietnam, Ramada Hotel Niigata in Japan and TRYO Hotel Yangon in Myanmar.
In other news, the most recent opening announcements for Wyndham Hotel Group South East Asia and Pacific Rim were two of the year’s biggest – a four-tower 3,200-room condotel complex in Danang, Vietnam and a Wyndham Grand hotel in Phuket, Thailand.
Wyndham Soleil Danang, slated to open in September 2018, is set to be one of Vietnam’s largest hotels in terms of height and room number. The USD446 million project will give Vietnam its second Wyndham property following the opening of Wyndham Legend Halong Bay this April.
The end of the year will see the region’s first Wyndham Grand branded hotel open – Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay. The resort, Wyndham’s second mixed-use property in Asia, will be managed by Wyndham and will be part of the company’s vacation ownership scheme.
China growth
One of the biggest 2016 success stories for Wyndham has been its China growth – with 210 hotel openings and a total of 1,200 across the country.
The total marks a 13 per cent lift on the previous year.
Leo Liu, president and managing director for Greater China, says the company aims to open 2,000 China properties by 2018.
"There is increasing competition with hotel brands throughout China, but with our current eight brands in the market, along with the addition of new brands form our vast portfolio, we are in a unique position to stand out from the crowd," he says.
