HYATT has debuted its first Thompson brand in Asia with the opening of 254-guest room property in the former World Expo area of Shanghai.
Thompson Shanghai Expo overlooks the Huangpu River and a host of event venues including the Mercedes-Benz Arena, Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre, China Art Museum and is near Shanghai Expo Culture Park.

The hotel forms part of Expo Place – a landmark commercial complex that is also arts, retail, and leisure hub set along the riverfront steps away from former World Expo
Event venues within the hotel include Thompson Hall, one of the largest ballrooms in the Expo district, spanning 1,100 square metres with a ceiling at 7.2-metres; up to 1,150 guests can be accommodated. There is also The Oval which is aimed at “creative and fashion-forward gatherings”. Function and meeting rooms benefit from natural light and state-of-the-art technology.
On the 20th floor rooftop is the TOTS evening and nightlife venue with three distinct zones: a bar, outdoor dining area, and cabanas with tableside service. TOTS also features Italian and Asian tapas, DJs and live entertainment. “

The Thompson Hotels brand started in New York as a cultural home base for people plugged into the city,” said Amar Lalvani, President and Creative Director of the Lifestyle group at Hyatt.
“Now, entering its 25th year, it’s wonderful to see the brand taking root in other vibrant markets across the globe. Madrid was a perfect step into Europe, at a time when that city is buzzing like never before. Shanghai similarly alive, creative, and incredibly dynamic. It feels like the right place, at the right moment, for the first Thompson hotel in Asia.”
