Great indoors and outdoors in Bali

Ayana Bali is an integrated resort that’s not resting on its laurels. Its Rock Bar is iconic, but now Ayana is heightening its appeal to event organisers with a new convention centre

BALI is a special place for organisers seeking an idyllic corporate retreat and in that way it remains Indonesia’s foremost business events destination.

The island’s offerings to conference organisers in Southeast Asia and beyond are set to strengthen as work on a standalone convention centre gets underway at Ayana Bali, an integrated resort from Indonesia’s Ayana Group.

Ayana Bali provides four unique hotels with a total of 972 guest rooms and suites on the 90-hectare Karang Mas Estate about a 20 minute drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport.

Located along Jimbaran Bay, with stunning Indian Ocean views, Ayana Bali is a favourite for outdoor events and corporate retreats, featuring extensive conference spaces and ballrooms. The new convention centre is likely to enhance the appeal of both Bali and Ayana to event organisers.

Each property provides planners with diverse indoor and outdoor options for events, teambuilding, dining and impressive resort accommodation. There is a hop-on hop-off tram-style shuttle service between the hotels along with the choice of walking between the restaurants, bars, event spaces and spa.

For Group Organisers
Ayana Bali’s convenient location near Ngurah Rai International Airport means easy flight connections to groups travelling from Singapore, Australia, and Hong Kong.

The resort has its own distinct flair for refreshment breaks between meetings, but for recuperation that is even more unique try the personalised “spa breaks”. Shoulder massages and pool treatments at Ayana Spa Bali, which accommodates up to 30 guests, can be provided, or offer longer sessions towards the end of the day.

EVENTS
Ayana Bali’s 33 indoor and outdoor venues include flagship spaces like SKY, Champa Garden, Tevana Garden, the Rock Bar, After Rock and KISIK Jetty.

Hibiscus makes an ideal venue for plenaries

Ayana Ballroom
The 846 sqm Ayana Ballroom can host up to 1,000 guests for receptions and 390 for round table setups. The space is divisible into “three” salons and equipped with the latest conference technology throughout.

VIP and breakout rooms such as the Karang Mas Boardroom, Bratan, and Batur rooms lead to the ballroom. For plenaries and keynote sessions, the Hibiscus venue offers tiered seating and built-in screens.

Rimba Ballroom
The 335 sqm Rimba Ballroom can host up to 400 guests and is divisible into two. Mid-sized meetings at the facility can be held at the Ulin and Cendena rooms while Jati offers a cocktail-style venue next to the Rimba’s forest grounds.

Outdoor Events
Events under the stars or with sunset views are among the reasons to hold events in Bali, and the resort caters to this and more.

The Rimba Lawn offers 618 sqm of space for outdoor banquets or themed events for up to 1,000 attendees. SKY, an oceanfront facility above Kubu Beach, provides a 7,500 sqm event space with stunning Indian Ocean views, and both are ideal for themed dinners and receptions.

Champa Garden is a 20,000 sqm parkland that can host up to 3,000 guests with space for grand theatrical setups for those gala moments. For more intimate gatherings, Asmara hosts up to 70 guests for cocktail-style receptions with a gazebo for presentations and performances.

ROCK BAR
Ayana Bali’s Rock Bar is a unique venue built along the cliffs of Jimbaran Bay. The entire space can host up to 1,000 guests for receptions and 750 seated, making it ideal for evening socials or lunches with splendid views. Working with the Ayana team, event planners have some great scope here with the venue’s lighting and music. The bar and lounge spaces create a canvas for corporate logos to be beamed onto the venue. Adding to a vibrant event  atmosphere is the sound of waves washing over the rocks below.

AFTER ROCK
There is a classical, speakeasy-style aura to this standalone venue across from the SAKA Museum. After Rock has a capacity for 300 guests and among the facilities are two private lounges that can double up as meeting rooms and event spaces for smaller gatherings. The mezzanine floor overlooking the stage area leads to the rooms and an outdoor cocktail space with a capacity for 100 can also be booked. Monthly cabaret shows are held in the stage area with a DJ playing from 9pm.

SAKA Museum
This is where b-leisure meets cultural tourism with the SAKA Museum introducing visitors to Balinese culture and history through arts, crafts, historical exhibits and a library to read more about the island’s fascinating past and age-old traditions that are still cherished today.

A short documentary is also shown explaining the rituals leading up  to the Day of Silence, an annual Balinese period of reflection preceded by festivities.

The second level of the museum is given over to lifelike and giant art depicting Balinese deities and the dramatic legends for which they are famed.

DINING
Kampoeng – For an introduction to Balinese music, culture and the varied cuisines of Indonesia, the highly buffer and cultural performances at this facility at the Rimba is a great place to start.

Traditional market stalls feature at either side of the stage where Kecak performances entertain diners. After dinner the fun continues out on the lawn but with modern flair – or more fiery flares – as fire dancers whirl flames from a safe distance.

Before dinner, large screens show excerpts from Charlie Chaplin’s visit to Bali in the 1920s. The comedy and silent film legend and his friends are certainly enjoying the sights.

Kisik Terrace at Ayana Bali

KISIK Seafood & Grill – As the name suggests, fresh seafood  is the favourite here with the KISIK event terrace at a pier just below the restaurant.

Sami Sami – Rustic Italian cuisine and pizzas from the wood-fired oven are among the specialities here. Six individual pavilions with views over the Indian Ocean are located near the Sami Sami bar’s cliff-edge lawn to provide superb sunset views.

The restaurant is located above the Rock Bar so planners can fit both venues into a varied evening for small- to mid-sized groups.
