Seoul alliance strengthens ranks with new members

The Seoul MICE Alliance (SMA) has increased its membership to a total 230 ahead of its November gathering, as part of wider initiatives to boost business events in the Korean capital.

The alliance aims to enhance Seoul’s competitiveness as a MICE destination by improving cooperation between government and private enterprises.

Sejong University Convention Centre, Best Western Premier Guro, Korea Thailand Communicaton Centre (KTCC) and destination management company Deskm were among the 36 October joiners.

Founded in 2011 and operated by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Seoul Tourism Organisation (STO), the SMA is a public-private partnership of government agencies and business events service providers, including meeting venues, accommodation, destination management companies (DMC), and others.

Planners who use SMA member organisations for their business events enjoy benefits such as reduced rates, complimentary use of event spaces, transportation to and from venues, free promotional space, discounts on event registration, and support for site inspections.

This year’s SMA Annual Meeting is taking place on November 24 at the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul. The current agenda features workshops, presentations and discussions on the past and future of the SMA, official induction of new members, and entertainment.
