MALAYSIA’s business events leaders have brought 29 DMCs, hotels and suppliers to China to attract more delegates as economic ties between the two countries warm.
MyCEB, Malaysia’s convention bureau under the ministry off tourism arts and culture, has embarked on its ninth China Roadshow, which sees “China's Silicon Valley” Shenzhen added to an itinerary that visits Shanghai, Chengdu and Beijing.
The tour takes place amid developments such as the East Coast Rail Link Project being put back on track following negotiations between Malaysia and China. The rail project would connect the Malaysian peninsula to the west of China via routes from Thailand and other Asean destinations. Malaysia is also showing a growing interest in China’s Belt and Road trading network.
The Malaysia Twin Deal V (MTD V), a dual package of rewards and support for conference and incentive organisers, is being introduced during the visit to encourage more Chinese planners to bring groups to Malaysia.
MTD V Twin Deal:
- Deal 1 – MyCEB will provide the value-added support from groups as low as 30 participants right up to delegations of 500 and more;
- Deal 2: – Rewards for planners come in bringing groups of 500 to 2,000 participants, while there are special rewards are for 2,000 to 8,000 participants;
- New features include photo booth so delegates can capture memories of their event; welcome banners in both digital and physical formats.
MTD V’s offer is for events booked from April 2019 to November 30, 2020, for groups arriving before December 2020.
In 2018, Malaysia recorded a total of 30,859 Chinese delegates who would have spent US$51 million leading to an economic impact of US$120 million, according to MyCEB.
“For 2019, we are targeting a 5 per cent increase, especially with the string of new offerings the country has produced since last year including seven new hotels and are expecting another ten new hotels up to 2020 to cater to the demands as we are gearing up for the Visit Malaysia 2020,” said Zulkefli Hj Sharif, MyCEB chief executive.
The week-long roadshow features in-house training for China MICE agents in second-tier cities along with a showcase of products and services by MyCEB’s partners.
