The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) Malaysia has made the timely appointments of a new committee chair and deputy chair ahead of endorsing Global Meetings Industry Day.
Ho Yoke Ping (right), general manager for business events, Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), steps into the chair’s shoes, while Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) CEO Ashwin Gunasekeran (left) has been elected as deputy chair.
“I’m honoured to be given this leadership position by my peers,” says Ping. “We will continue with our core objectives in the area of developing future leaders, associations and government advocacy. It’s important that the whole ICCA community and other industry players continue to communicate and promote the value of business events to support the goals of the Malaysia Business Events Roadmap 2020 and beyond.”
The committee has adopted the Global Meetings Industry Day campaign for 2017, with events taking place worldwide on April 6. The day recognises the meetings industry and the positive impact it has on cities, businesses and economies.

Among the activities organised by ICCA Malaysia are the BE Future Leaders Day during the Malaysia Business Events Week and Bid Challenge for students, and various government advocacy programmes.
“ICCA Malaysia has always been a supportive community that has been working together to strengthen the Malaysian business events industry,” says Gunasekeran.
“Since 2016, Penang, through PCEB, has been a part of the ICCA Malaysia family. With my appointment as the deputy chair, I look forward to bridging a greater participation of Penang in growing the efforts of ICCA Malaysia.”
