Anthony Wong, a pioneering Malaysian meetings professional, has been rewarded for his significant contribution to the industry with the International Congress and Convention Association’s (ICCA) highest honour.
Wong, a past ICCA board member and general manager of Asian Overland Services (AOS) Convention & Events, received the ICCA Moises Shuster Award at the Farewall Dinner of the association’s 2016 congress, which took place November 13-16 in Kuching, Malaysia.
Announcing the award, ICCA president Nina Freysen-Pretorius (above, right) said: “Anthony embraced sustainability long before it became commonplace; he has championed quality standards not just in ICCA, but in many other meetings and tourism organisations he has been involved in, including Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA).
“He was one of the drivers behind ICCA’s first move to set up a regional office in this region, and has been a valued personal mentor to every one of ICCA’s Asia-Pacific regional directors.
“It is wonderfully appropriate that he is receiving this award in his home country Malaysia, on whose behalf he has been a great ambassador for many, many years. He is also, by the way, a very fine PCO!”
Named after one of ICCA’s founders and past presidents, the ICCA Moises Shuster award recognises an individual’s success and leadership in the international meetings business, and their contribution towards ICCA’s development.
Past winners include Martin Lewis, Anne Wallin Rodven, Christian Mutschlechner, Pieter van der Hoeven and Arnaldo Nardone.
