Vets to paws in Tokyo

Japanese capital secures World Veterinary Association Congress – the first time the home of cartoonesque pets and Hachiko the loyal dog will host the event

THOUSANDS of veterinarian specialists and associated professionals will be heading to Tokyo in 2026 after the Japanese capital secured the 41st World Veterinary Association Congress.

WVAC 2026 is expected to bring 6,000 participants from 70 countries and regions when the conference takes place at Tokyo International Forum in April of that year.

The annual congress gathers experts from around the world to discuss veterinary medicine. WVAC 2026 will be the second time the association has held its congress in Japan, after the event was held in Yokohama in 1995, and the first time for it to be hosted by Tokyo.

WVAC 2026 is being organised by the Japan Veterinary Medical Association (JVMA), which put forward a strong proposal backed by Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Tokyo Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Japan’s strong background in veterinary medicine was a deciding factor in bringing the event to Tokyo along with Tokyo Convention and Visitors Bureau’s commitment to support the congress.

JVMA is an active member of both the World Veterinary Association and the Federation of Asian Veterinary Associations. It has hosted successful international conferences in veterinary medicine and also organised the highly successful Training Program for Asian Veterinarians.
