BLOOD-TRANSFUSION specialists have selected Yokohama for their biennial conference. ISBT 2028 will take place following an international congress for the association in Kuala Lumpur next year.
The Japanese port city will host the 2028 International Congress of the International Society of Blood Transfusion in June of that year.

The four-day ISBT 2028 is being organised by the International Society of Blood Transfusion and the Japan Society of Transfusion Medicine and Cell Therapy (JSMTC).
The City of Yokohama, the Japan National Tourism Organisation, Yokohama City Visitors Bureau and conference venue Pacifico Yokohama worked together to support JSTMCT’s bid.
Officials say Japan’s advanced research capabilities, Yokohama’s convenient international access and infrastructure along with Pacifico Yokohama’s outstanding reputation for hosting conferences laid the basis for the bid win.
“I am delighted that Yokohama has been selected to host ISBT 2028,” said Professor Masahiro Satake, ISBT2028 Chair and senior counsellor with the Japanese Red Cross Society, said. “With its excellent domestic and international access and exceptional infrastructure for hosting international conferences, I am confident that participants will find their stay in Yokohama highly rewarding.

“The ISBT is widely recognised as the leading authority in transfusion medicine, dedicated to promoting advancements in transfusion science and elevating global standards of practice. With the collaboration and support of all stakeholders, I am committed to ensuring that ISBT 2028 will be a productive and impactful event,” Satake said.
The ISBT was founded in 1935 and now has a membership of blood-transfusion professionals drawn from more than a hundred countries. Its international congress was last held in Japan 19 years ago.
