Hilton Tokyo renovates events space

A TOKYO hotel is gearing up its conference and event product to attract more international groups and help planners meet environmental, social and governance (ESG) targets.

Hilton Tokyo will be expanding its entire third floor in the first stage of a multimillion dollar renovation carried out in phases to maintain its ranking by Cvent as the top MICE hotel in Japan. These upgrades will add 200 sqm of meeting space to the existing 1,000 sqm to provide flexible, AV-tech enabled rooms blended with traditional and contemporary craftsmanship.

More international team members are also being recruited, said a spokesman for the Shinjuku hotel. This would increase the number of languages spoken by the business events team to eight.

Pre-function space at Hilton Tokyo is also being revamped

The first stage is expected to be completed in mid-October and the whole renovation project will result in four meeting rooms, five function rooms, one pre-function room, three break-out areas and one lecture hall. The facilities would be a “unique resource in Tokyo”.

With more corporate organisers seeking to meet ESG mandates, event packages featuring Hilton’s carbon offset program are being offered.

The new spaces will feature LED screens and digital audio technology systems as part of Hilton Tokyo’s partnership with Vega Project KK. Launched in 2022, the alliance has already equipped the hotel with a unique curved LED screen (W15.1m x H3.04m), described as the largest LED screen of any hotel ballroom in Japan.

Following the third-floor renovation, the fourth level – which includes the hotel’s  ballroom – will be modernised next summer as Hilton Tokyo competes for a greater share of the international business events market. The 830-guest room hotel has also recently expanded into outdoor event catering with the capacity to serve 3,500 participants at a time.

“With Hilton’s history of over 60 years in Japan, we are delighted to commence this renovation with a significant investment into our conference and events facilities,” said Felix Bisch, general manager of Hilton Tokyo.

“This will allow us to continue to be the top MICE hotel in Japan, attracting and delighting guests from all over the world with best-in-class facilities, a locally inspired design, and the latest technology.”
