Macau is positioning itself as Asia’s “mega events city” with the launch of a support for meeting organisers who bring more than a hundred delegates to the enclave.
Irene Lau, executive director of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (Ipim), the government agency set up to attract conferences and trade shows to Macau, says the support and stimulation programmes will attract the attention of international organizers.
The programme, announced at Aime 2016 in Melbourne, will also support local associations in bidding for international conferences.
Help with the cost of accommodation, F&B, keynote speakers’ participation, marketing and more are offered for orgainsers who have at least 100 persons in a two-day meeting plus half-a-day of corporate activity can be considered for Ipim’s subvention programme.
Lau says Ipim is working with Gaining Edge consultant Mike Williams in bringing Macau t the fore as a leading business events destination in Asia and as an events city.
“There is a new focus on Macau – it’s no longer just the gaming industry,” says Lau.
The enclave currently has more than 182,000 sqm of meeting space and more tha n 32,000 hotel rooms with more international hotels in the pipeline, says Lau.
