Brisbane is defining itself as a centre for scientific expertise with the arrival of two international conferences between April 12-24, held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) World Congress and the 40th IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP) 2015 are expected to bring in AUD$12m (US$9.22m) for the region.
The first of the events, the RCOG World Congress, is hosted in conjunction with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG), and brings together the world’s leading physicians to discuss key topics such as stillbirth, preterm birth and helping women with complex pregnancies. The 40th IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP) 2015 will convene experts specialising in the theory and practice of signal processing, speech recognition and assistive listening devices.
Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said that both events have beaten target numbers of attendees. ““Both ICASSP and the RCOG/RANZCOG events are expected to attract a combined number of more than 3,900 delegates and conference exhibitors to Brisbane…. attracting participants from 47 countries and a massive 90 per cent of ICASSP’s delegates arriving from overseas. This has exceeded the combined target of 3000 for both events, a brilliant win for the conference organisers and a brilliant win for Brisbane."
