Developments in Macau show little sign of stopping, widening the choices for event and incentive travel planners with more luxury hotels primed to open

15 Jun 2017

If planners thought the grand openings of Wynn Palace followed by The Parisian in 2016 formed the peak of resort launches in Macau, they’d better be prepared for more to come.

MGM is set to make its first foray into Cotai with an opening in the second half of this year, located behind the Sheraton Grand and other Cotai Strip properties. Across an open grass area south of Wynn Palace, an enormous set of buildings is taking shape. This will be the Grand Lisboa Palace, incorporating a hotel by the same name, plus a Karl Lagerfeld Hotel and Palazzo Versace Macau.

5 post-meeting and incentive options for Macau

The City of Dreams resort is set to welcome the Zaha Hadid-designed Morpheus in 2018. In the northwestern part of Cotai, the Galaxy resort (below) is only half done: Phases 3 and 4 are still to come.

While the private sector forges ahead at speed, government infrastructure projects designed to facilitate an influx of tourists and delegates have suffered delays. One being the LRT (Light Rail Transit), which will loop through Cotai and include a stop at Lotus Bridge, a much anticipated link to the Hengqin Island free-trade zone, and conveniently located across from Studio City. This LRT section is scheduled to open in 2019. Watch out also for the new Taipa Ferry Terminal.
