The Murray Hong Kong, to offer events above, below The Arches
The Murray, Hong Kong, a Niccolo hotel to offer 1,900 sqm of meeting space as former office tower is transformed

6 Jul 2017

A semi-alfresco space called The Arches will be one of the event venues when The Murray, Hong Kong, a Niccolo Hotel, is set to open in late 2017.

In redesigning the former government offices, architects Foster + Partners has honoured the building’s rich history by retaining a signature feature, the former driveway that circled the building beneath the iconic three-storey imposing arches.

The Arches will have a capacity for over 500 guests and provide views of St John's Cathedral and Hong Kong Park. It will be part of more than 1,900 sqm of meeting and event space at the 336-guest-room hotel.

Alongside The Arches will be Cotton Tree Terrace, spanning 130 sqm and providing a relaxed setting for casual events for up to 100 guests.

At the hotel’s Garden Level (UG/F) will be The Murray Lawns, offering 150 sqm of landscaped event space for up to 125 guests.

Design work will enable abundant natural light to filter through the building’s distinctive recessed windows of the multipurpose meetings, event and breakout rooms on the second floor. Consisting of a pre-function area and six rooms, each ranging from 35 to 40 sqm, three rooms can be combined to create a larger space measuring up to 105 sqm.

The Niccolo Room on the 25th level is targeted at conferences, galas or weddings, and can be partitioned to create a pre-function room or up to eight individual spaces, each outfitted with wall panels that slide back to reveal 65” flat screen televisions.

At 420 sqm, the Niccolo Room is the hotel’s largest indoor venue, and can hold up to 360 for a cocktail receptions. Equipped with audiovisual equipment, two opposing walls with floor-to-ceiling LED panels and eight LED panels on each section of the ceiling, it will be able to facilitate customised AV displays and colour themes.

The Murray’s top floor will feature a rooftop restaurant, bar and terrace panoramic views of The Peak and the Hong Kong city skyline. The focal point of the 355 sqm restaurant and bar venue is The Aviary, a private dining room with a striking glass façade and lofty interiors that will accommodate up to 12 guests surrounded by the rooftop terrace, perfect for al fresco entertainment.

Kieron Hunt, formerly with The Peninsula Tokyo, will lead the events team at The Murray in his role as executive assistant manager of restaurants, bars and events.

“The Murray will be a leading hospitality and events destination in Hong Kong,” says Duncan Palmer, managing director of The Murray, Hong Kong. “Our enviable location, multipurpose venues and exceptional support staff will make our event spaces the obvious choice for corporate events, conferences, exclusive social gatherings.”
